The Federal Council classifies the situation in Switzerland as an "extraordinary situation". All shops, restaurants, bars and entertainment and leisure facilities will be closed until 19 April 2020.
The Federal Council ordered new measures on Monday, 16 March 2020:
From midnight onwards, all shops, markets, restaurants, bars and entertainment and leisure facilities such as museums, libraries, cinemas, concert halls and theatres, sports centres, swimming pools and ski resorts will be closed until 19 April 2020.
Similarly, establishments where keeping a distance cannot be maintained, such as hairdressing salons or beauty salons, will be closed.
Shops for daily needs (grocery stores, take-aways, meal delivery services, post offices, banks, etc.) as well as health facilities are excluded and will remain open.
The supply of the entire population with food, medicines and goods for daily use is guaranteed, and sufficient stocks have been built up. Refrain from hamster purchases.
Public and private events are prohibited after midnight.
Particularly endangered persons (risk groups) do their work at home. If this is not possible, they will be given leave by the employer. They continue to receive their wages.
For children who cannot be looked after privately, the cantons must provide the necessary childcare facilities. Childcare centres may only be closed if other suitable childcare facilities are available.
Border controls will be extended to Germany, Austria and France.
To support the cantons in hospitals, logistics and security matters, the deployment of up to 8,000 military personnel is authorised.
