The Immortal Glory of the Bengali Language
    Author : Sankar Halder Shailbala
    Date of Composition : January 1, 2025

Bengali, a language of thirty million tongues,
Echoes in every corner of the world, in songs.
A new chapter in civilization's story,
Bengali language stands tall, with glory.

From ancient times, words have flowed and grown,
Born from meditation, a soulful tone.
Charyapada's verses, deep in the heart,
Bengali's ancient history, a work of art.

    Rabindranath's words, Bengali's pride,
Nobel Prize, shining bright, far and wide.
In the light of literature, it burns forever,
    Bengali language, enduring forever.

In the light of education, in the ocean of knowledge,
Bengali language, a new form it takes.
    In science, technology, every field,
Bengali language, ever forward it yields.

The symbol of thirty million Bengalis' affection,
Bengali language, our pride and reflection.
In the future too, Bengali will live,
In the hands of the new generation, it will thrive.

Like stars, Bengali poets shine bright,
Spreading light across the world, what a sight!
    In Rabindranath's tunes, Nazrul's songs,
    Bengali language's glory, forever strong.

Modern poets walk a new path,
The flow of Bengali literature, ever hath.
On the world map, Bengali shines bright,
With colors of literature, it fills the night.

Bengali poets touch hearts of men,
Spreading peace throughout the world again.
With the sweet tune of the mother tongue,
Bengali's contribution to world literature, forever young.

    New generation poets, weave dreams,
Their pens ignite the light of literature's beams.
The future of Bengali literature is bright,
Bengali language and literature, forever alight.

◆ "The Immortal Glory of the Bengali Language," is highly significant as it encapsulates the poem's core message.
Here's a breakdown of its significance:

◆ "Immortal Glory": This phrase immediately establishes the poem's tone of admiration and respect for the Bengali language. "Immortal" suggests that the language's significance transcends time and will endure for generations to come. "Glory" emphasizes its achievements, its beauty, and its impact on the world.

◆ "Bengali Language": This is the central subject of the poem. The title explicitly states that the poem is dedicated to celebrating and honoring the Bengali language.

◆ Significance: The title effectively summarizes the poem's main themes:

◆ The enduring power and beauty of the Bengali language.

◆ The historical and contemporary significance of Bengali literature.

◆ The role of the Bengali language in shaping Bengali identity and culture.

◆ The hope for the continued growth and flourishing of the Bengali language.
By choosing this title, the poet effectively sets the stage for the reader, preparing them to appreciate the language's profound impact and its enduring legacy.

◆ Comparison of this poem with other poets and poems ◆

◆ "The Immortal Glory of the Bengali Language" by Sankar Halder Shailbala with some other well-known poems and poets.

    ◆ 1. Comparison with Rabindranath Tagore's Poetry:

◆ Themes: Tagore's poetry is renowned for its philosophical depth, exploring themes of spirituality, nature, love, and the human condition. While this poem also touches upon themes of cultural pride and the enduring nature of language, its primary focus is on celebrating the language itself. Tagore's poetry often delves deeper into personal and universal human experiences.

◆ Style: Tagore's poetry is known for its lyrical beauty, musicality, and innovative use of rhythm and meter. While this poem is well-written, it employs a more straightforward and direct style compared to Tagore's often complex and nuanced expressions.

◆ Impact: Tagore's poetry has had a profound global impact, earning him the Nobel Prize in Literature. He is considered one of the greatest poets of the 20th century. While this poem effectively celebrates the Bengali language, its impact may be more localized within the Bengali community.

◆ 2. Comparison with Kazi Nazrul Islam's Poetry:

◆ Themes: Nazrul Islam's poetry is known for its revolutionary spirit, social and political commentary, and passionate expressions of love and rebellion. This poem, while acknowledging the contributions of Nazrul Islam, focuses more on the overall beauty and significance of the Bengali language rather than exploring social or political themes.

◆ Style: Nazrul Islam's poetry is characterized by its powerful imagery, passionate intensity, and use of strong metaphors. This poem, while employing some figurative language, is generally more descriptive and celebratory in its tone.

◆ Impact: Nazrul Islam is revered as the "Rebel Poet" in Bengali literature. His poetry has had a significant impact on Bengali culture and has inspired generations of writers and activists.

◆ 3. Comparison with Contemporary Bengali Poetry:

◆ Modernity: Contemporary Bengali poetry often explores diverse themes, including urban life, social issues, identity, and the human condition in the 21st century. This poem, while acknowledging the contributions of modern poets, does not delve deeply into the contemporary concerns and perspectives that are often reflected in modern Bengali poetry.

◆ Experimentation: Many contemporary Bengali poets experiment with form, style, and language, pushing the boundaries of literary expression. This poem, while acknowledging the "new path" of modern poets, adheres to a more traditional poetic form and style.

◆ Overall : "The Immortal Glory of the Bengali Language" is a commendable poem that effectively celebrates the beauty, significance, and enduring power of the Bengali language. However, when compared to the works of renowned Bengali poets like Tagore and Nazrul Islam, it may lack the depth, complexity, and philosophical exploration that characterize their poetry.
Furthermore, compared to contemporary Bengali poetry, it may not fully reflect the diversity of themes, styles, and perspectives that are prevalent in the current literary landscape.
