At least 115 people, most of them likely children, were killed in a strike on a girls’ elementary school in southern Iran on Saturday, health officials and Iranian state media said.

The search for survivors in the rubble of the Shajarah Tayyebeh school in the southern town of Minab ended Sunday, according to Mohammad Radmehr, the governor of Minab, Iranian state media reported. It appeared to be the deadliest attack in the ongoing American-Israeli bombing campaign.

Several videos and images verified by The New York Times showed that at least half of the two-story school was destroyed in the explosion. Emergency workers with the Red Crescent could be seen alongside families desperately combing through the rubble, which was littered with schoolbooks and book bags covered in blood and ashes. Portions of the building jutted out from the rubble, with bits of colorful murals visible on what were once the walls of the school. Desks were piled with debris.

BBC: At least 153 dead after reported strike on school, Iran says

 

At least 153 people including children have died after a reported strike hit a school in southern Iran, according to Iranian officials.

 

Iran has blamed the US and Israel. The US military's Central Command (Centcom) said it was looking into reports of the incident, while Israel's military said it was "not aware" of any IDF operations in the area.

Video and photographs of the aftermath, which have been verified as authentic and geolocated to the site, show hundreds of people gathered around the partially collapsed and smoking building, with rubble strewn across the street and men digging through it for victims. Screams can be heard in the background. In some of the images, schoolbags and textbooks are being pulled from the debris.

 

Capt Tim Hawkins, the spokesperson for US Central Command, said the US was “aware of reports concerning civilian harm resulting from ongoing military operations. We take these reports seriously and are looking into them”.

 

The school building appears to be adjacent to an Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps barracks.

 

Hossein Kermanpour, the spokesperson for Iran’s health ministry, said in a post on X that the bombing of the school was “the most bitter news” of the conflict so far. “God knows how many more children’s bodies they will pull from under the rubble.”

যাইহোক, এটা বোধহয় আগেও জানতে চেয়েছিলাম। মেয়েদের নিয়ে তথ্যগুলো কি ঠিক, না প্রোপাগাণ্ডা? 

 

'একটা ব্যাপারে আমি সত্যিই ইম্প্রেসড, সেইটা হচ্ছে ইরানের স্পোকস পার্সনদের 'পোকার ফেইস'। পোকার ফেইস মানে হচ্ছে পোকার খেলার সময় যে চেহারা করে রাখতে হয় যেন প্রতিপক্ষ না বুঝে হাতে কোন কার্ড আছে। জাতীয় বিপদে আপদে ইরানের যারা মিডিয়ায় কথা বলে তাদের সব সময় একই রকম ফেইস। বুঝতে চেষ্টা করছিলাম তাদের সর্বোচ্চ নেতা হারানোয় তারা কতটুকু শোকগ্রস্থ বা হতাশ বা ভেঙ্গে পরেছে।

আলী লারজানি কিংবা পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী আরগাচি এদের চেহারা দেখে বুঝার উপায় নাই এদের মনের ভেতরে কি চলতেছে। দেখলে মনে হয় সব নরমাল। মাঝে মাঝে ভাবের কথা বলে, সেইটা ওভার কনফিডেন্স নাকি কোনকিছুর ইঙ্গিত সেটাও ধরতে কষ্ট হয়। দেখুন গতকালের ট্রাম্পের ছবি দেখলে বুঝা যায় সে বড় এক মিশনে নেমেছে, এবং এর ফলাফল কি হবে সেটা নিয়ে তার টেনশন আছে। কিন্তু ইরানের যারা বড় পর্যায়ে আছে তাদের চেহারা দেখে কখনোই ভালমন্দ কিছু বুঝা যায়না। আরেকটা ব্যাপার, ইরানে পলিটিক্যালি যারা উঁচু পদে থাকে তারা প্রায় সবাই পিএইচডি ডিগ্রিধারী হয়। তাদের গত নির্বাচন খেয়াল করেছিলাম, যত ক্যান্ডিডেট ছিল প্রায় সব গুলাই পিএইচডি।

এদের চেহারা যেমন নির্লিপ্ত, মাঝে মাঝে ভাবছি খামেনী কি মৃত্যুর মাধ্যমেও কোন মেসেজ দিয়ে গেলেন কিনা। এবং মনে হচ্ছে এমন যে হবে তারা আগেই জানতো এবং এটা পরিকল্পিত। একটা ব্যাপার লক্ষ্য করুন, অন্য দেশে পালিয়ে যাওয়া দূরে থাক খামেনী বাঙ্কারেও যান নি , তার নিয়মিত জীবন যাপন করছিলেন তার বাড়িতেই। গত সপ্তাহে পাবলিকলি বড় জামাতও পরিয়েছেন। হ্যাঁ তাকে মারার এত আয়োজন হয়েছে জানা সত্ত্বেও। তার বয়েস ৮৬। তবে কি এই বয়সে তার হারানোর কিছু নেই সেটা জেনেই কোথাও যাওয়ার প্রয়োজন বোধ করেন নি?

চে গুয়েভারার একটা উক্তি আছে- 'দাঁড়ানো অবস্থায় মরে যাওয়া ভাল... হাঁটু গেড়ে বেঁচে থাকার চাইতে...' এমন কোনকিছু প্রমাণের জন্যেই কি লোকটা কোন আড়ালও নেয়নি...?  এভাবে মরলে লোকে 'মার্টার' হিসাবে দেখা শুরু করে, অর্থাৎ শহীদ হিসেবে। বয়েস ৮৬, এম্নিতেও তো মরে যেতেই হতো!

যদিও অনেকে ইরানে 'অনলিফ্যান' এলাউ করেনাই বলে তার সমালোচনা করে। তবে তার ওয়াচেই ইরানে নারী শিক্ষা বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে। সাবেক শাহের সময়ে যে ছোট কাপড়ওয়ালা নারী দেখিয়ে প্রগতির গল্প শুনানো হয় তখন নারী শিক্ষার হার ছিল ২৪%। বর্তমানে নারী শিক্ষার হার ৯৯%। গর্ভকালীন মৃত্যুর হার এখন ১৬% (রেফারেন্সের জন্য- আমেরিকায় সেটা ১৯%)। ১৬১১১ নারীদের স্পোর্টস ক্লাব আছে। নারী এথলেটরা ৩৩০২ টা মেডাল জিতেছে আন্তর্জাতিক প্রতিযোগিতায়। ভার্সিটি গ্রাজুয়েটদের মাঝে মেইল ফিমেইল রেশিও ৫০-৫০। কিন্তু ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং গ্র‍্যাজুয়েটদের মাঝে নারীর সংখ্যাই বেশী। 

এছাড়াও এই ব্যক্তি সব সময় নিপীড়িত মানুষের পক্ষে তার দেশকে রেখেছেন- হোক সেটা ভেনিজুয়েলা, কিউবা কিংবা ফিলিস্তিন। এই একটা জায়গায় ছাড় দিলে হয়তো নোবেল প্রাইজও পেয়ে যেতেন, যদি এপস্টেইনের সাথে হালকা ঘুরাঘুরির অভ্যাস থাকতো। কত কিছুর পরে কত লোকেই তো পেয়েছে সেই পুরস্কার। 

লোকটা কি তবে শেষবেলায় কোন মেসেজ দেয়ার জন্যেই ঘর ছেড়ে যায়নি? ইরানের সবাই ই জানতো উনি কোথায় থাকে- এইটা কোন গোপন তথ্য ছিলনা...'

 

 

They were monitoring for his daily patterns — where he lived, whom he met with, how he communicated and where he might retreat under threat of attack, five people familiar with the matter told CNN. They were keeping tabs, too, on Iran’s senior political and military leaders, who rarely gathered in the same place with the ayatollah, the country’s supreme leader for nearly four decades.
Over the last several days, they found their opportunity. Top Iranian officials, including Khamenei, planned to meet Saturday morning at separate sites on a Tehran compound that is home to the offices of the ayatollah, the Iranian presidency and the national security apparatus.
The overly cautious supreme leader felt less vulnerable during daylight hours, an Israeli source said, and let down his guard.
